Deacons’ Data
The Learning Circle: will hold its fourth and final session on April 28th at 7 p.m. Presenters will be Shelagh Campbell-Palmer on Palliative Resources for You and Yours and Dr Barry Moody on The Story of the Planters and the Loyalists. Attendance has increased each week with 112 present last Monday. Everyone welcome.
The Church’s 140th Anniversary: plans are progressing. The Financial Project of $25,000 was launched on April 20th. These monies will be designated to pay for the painting of the church exterior and to support a medical clinic in Angola. Plans are formulating for a celebratory weekend at the church on November 16th, 2008.
Supervision: Mike Gill was introduced to the congregation on April 20th. He is a student at Acadia Divinity College and will begin his work as a supervised field education student at the church this September.
Rev. D. Ogilvie: will be the guest speaker at the Lawrencetown Baptist Church on June 1st. Rev. Dr. Carol Anne Jansen will lead worship at PWUBC on that date. Speakers in July during the pastor’s holiday will include Rev. Dr. K. Churchill and Rev. Dr. D. Veinotte.
On June 15th: graduates (High School, University, Community College) from our church and community will be recognized at the morning worship service. ALL graduates are invited to attend.

Annual Church Picnic: will be held June 8th at Lockhart and Ryan Park in New Minas. Worship that Sunday will be part of the picnic day schedule at the Park. If rainy, the event will be held at the Wolfville Elementary School.
A baptism and reception: of new members will be held at PWUBC on May 4th during the regular worship service.

Port Williams United Baptist Church
Sunday Worship
Join us in the Sanctuary at 10:00 a.m. each Sunday as we worship God. All ages gather together and then after a Children’s Time, the young children leave for the Nursery or Children’s Worship. Our Nursery is available during the worship service for children up to school age. Parents may also choose to drop their children off at the Nursery before the service begins. Children’s Worship is a program designed to give our children the opportunity to worship God in their own way. Those in Grades Primary to Five meet in the Agape Room after the Children’s Time. Sunday School
What a privilege it is for a church to have over a great number of students and teachers involved in learning more about God’s kingdom and serving Him. The adult classes are a great hit as we approach the end of the year. There is still time to get in on some fantastic learning opportunities. Hope to see some of you in class. Of special interest is the series, “Digging Deeper in the Scriptures” which started on April 6th.. Seven sessions on topics that will challenge your thinking and deepen your faith. Check the write-ups in the weekly bulletin, you will want to attend all the sessions.
The Mixed Adult Class started a new topic in on April 6th under the leadership of Rev. Ogilvie. Everyone is welcome.
The Men’s Class is enjoying a study of the book of Ecclesiastes. Come and learn about ‘life under the sun’. All men are welcome.

The Ladies Sunday School Class: is hosting a series of special sessions with guest speakers continuing through May. These will be held each Sunday in the Ladies’ Parlour immediately following the worship service. All women are welcome to attend.

The Choir
Do you enjoy music? Do you like singing? Are you looking for an enjoyable evening out?
If so, you might want to consider joining the choir.
Don't worry if you don't know how to read music, or if you don't think you are the next Pavarotti. The choir is more about coming together while having fun and worshipping through music.
The choir meets for practice on Wednesday nights from 7:00-8:30. The choir is always looking for new recruits, so why not come and give it a try?
Brownies
The Brownies meet here at the church in Lockwood Hall on a weekly basis on a Monday night at 6:00 p.m. Their last meeting before the summer break will be May 5th.
Their Brown Owl is Kara-Lynn Scallion who can be reached at 678-9238.
Church Family Picnic
It’s hard to believe that our annual Church Family Picnic is just around the corner. This year we are excited to be going to Lockhart and Ryan Park in New Minas. We are looking forward to having a day filled with faith, fellowship and, of course, food and fun.
Our church family picnic will be held on June 8th. We will start our morning with our worship service at 10:00am followed by lunch and games for all ages. Signs will be posted upon entering the park to guide you to our exact location.
What do you need to bring? Please bring your own chairs and/or blankets to sit on, a dessert or salad to share and your own dishes and cutlery. There will be barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs and drinks provided.
In the event that it rains that day, we will meet at the same time at Wolfville School. Communication to this effect will be on the answering machine at the church that morning (542-3495) and posted on the door to the church building.
Transportation: If you need a ride to Lockhart and Ryan Park or if you are able to take an extra person with you; please contact Ruth at the office (542-3495). She will keep a master list to match people up. Thank you in advance for your spirit of cooperation.
This event has always been one filled with enjoyment for all ages. We hope to see you all there!
Youth Group & Youth In Action
Port Williams United Baptist Church Youth Group is a community group, open to everyone, providing a safe environment for fun and fellowship. On the first to third Sunday of each month, youth in Grade 5, or older, are invited to gather in Lockwood Hall for games and activities. The fourth Sunday of each month is dedicated to youth in Grades 9 to 12. There is no meeting on a fifth Sunday.

Youth in Action is a youth-based drama and puppet team, developing their acting skills while exploring the Bible through skits and songs. Young people in Grade 5 or older are encouraged to get involved. For information, please contact Pam Davidson at 542-2544, or Ted Champion at 542-3791.
The Youth In Action and Youth Group continue to keep very busy. The 30-Hour Famine again this year was very successful with five leaders and nine youth participating. Friday evening was spent demonstrating talents of the painting displayed for our upcoming 140th Church Anniversary and tie dying t-shirts. Saturday morning was spent canvassing for food items to refill our community food bank. Saturday afternoon was spent with resting and games. The 30 hours came to an end at supper time when family members joined us to replenish our bodies with wonderful food prepared by the parents and leaders. Thank you to all who supported us with prayers and donations for this worthwhile cause.
May 3rd is our indoor yard sale. Anyone having donations please notify Ted Champion, Angel Pulsifer or Marlene Porter.
On May 9th adults and youth will be travelling to New Brunswick for ‘Spring Forth’. Please remember this group as they travel safely for this wonderful upcoming event.
We continue to meet every week with Youth In Action at 11:15 am on Sunday mornings and youth group starts Sunday evening at 6:00pm with floor hockey, followed by an evening of games and refreshments. One week in the month we travel to another community for ‘Rally In The Valley’, which is the gathering of youth from many communities who meet for an evening of music and youth participation.
Playgroup
Our Playgroup meets every Tuesday morning during the school year in Lockwood Hall. It will start at 10:30 a.m. and run to 12:00 noon. It is open to all parents/caregivers and children from birth to pre-school and is a great way to meet other parents and children in our community. It is ‘freeplay’ so you can just pop in for a short time or for the whole time. We would love to see you.
We are pleased that parents of young children bring the children to play in Lockwood Hall each Tuesday morning from Sept to June. Often there are up to 40 parents and children enjoying this informal play time.

Women’s Missionary Auxiliary
At the next WMA meeting, the guest speaker will be DEBORAH MOSHER. The meeting is on May 6th at 7:30pm in the Ladies Parlor.

The Men’s Fellowship
The Port Williams Men’s Fellowship will have its final meeting of the spring on Thursday, May 1st at 6:30pm in the vestry.
We will have a potluck supper and wives and significant others are invited to join us. Ken Bezanson will lead us in a program about collections and you are all invited to bring whatever you may collect to share that evening. Ken would like to have an idea of what will be brought so he can prepare the program. If you have a collection you can share please tell Ken or inform Charlie Forney (542-4849) or Jerry Atwater (542-5303) and we will pass it on.

Port Williams Health Auxiliary
The auxiliary is very interested in making up-to-date information available on health-related issues. Nearly every meeting features a guest speaker on an interesting topic and members of the community are always welcome to attend.
N.B. Plants Needed: The PW Health Auxiliary is once again holding a Plant Sale & Coffee Party. The date is Saturday, May 10th beginning at 9:30am in Lockwood Hall at the Port Williams United Baptist Church. Perennials, Annuals, Houseplants, Herbs, Shrubs, Trees, Seeds, etc. are all needed to make this event a success. Plants provided should be potted and labelled.
If you are able to donate plant material we would be most grateful. Items can be left at Lockwood Hall on Friday, May 9th during the day or in the early evening.
